  PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Both Romanian and foreign cosplayers can take part in the regular contests. However, only cosplayers who are Romanian citizens can take part in the preliminaries for the international contests.

2. Participants of any age are welcomed; however, underage participants must be accompanied by either a person of age or by a parent, who will sign the registration paper for the person/persons they are in charge with

3. If a participant has already won a preliminary in an international contest – any of those in which Romania takes part – with a costume, they are not allowed to take part into other international preliminaries with the same costume.

4. Costume policy

  • In order to be able to take part in the solocosplay competition, the costumes must be made by the participant. Taking part with costumes that were either bought or commissioned is strictly prohibited. Except only for the costumes that have SOME accessories or parts that were bought, provided that most part of the costume was handmade.

  • For the group cosplay competition, taking part with costumes that were either bought or commissioned is allowed for the regular competition. For the international contests preliminaries, the costumes must be made by the participants.

  • Characters from any source are accepted (manga, anime, movies, fan art-EXCEPT for fan art made by the cosplayer). Crossdressing costumes (as in changing the character’s gender from female to male or the other way around), crossover (inspired from several characters) are accepted, as long as they follow the rules and the cosplayer provides clear references to the judges.

  • Both costumes and skit should follow the general audiences rules, as Nijikon receives visitors of all ages. Implicitly, the minimal costume should be at least a bathing suit. G-strings, transparent or close to non-existent underwear must be covered by a cape/shorts/skirt/dress/leggings etc.

5. Weapon policy

According to the legislation, certain limitations regarding the accessories/props permitted in the contests are necessary, as follows:

  • Swords, knives, shuriken etc. These will be made, as much as possible, from non-metallic materials. In some cases, metal is also permitted, but those props must be kept in their casing/sheath and must not be shown in public (except for the stage where the contest is taking place). The metal objects must not have sharp blades (they must be blunt) or pointed ends (they must be rounded; rule applies also to other materials).
  • The bows will have no string, and the arrows will have no arrowhead; or the arrowhead should be covered or blunt.
  • Pistols and other related weapon-props must have a small yellow or orange circle on its tip, indicating that they are fake. Pistols are not permitted, regardless the ammunition (squibs, balls etc.). Keep in mind that if you go outside with such props, although they are fake, chances are that you get in trouble with the local police.
  • Metal chains longer than 20 cm are not permitted; if they are longer, they must be made of plastic or other materials.

6. Skits policy

  • The entire dialog (if it exists) must be pre-recorded. We won’t provide microphones.
  • Obscene or sexualized gestures or dances are not allowed. Exhibitionism of any kind is prohibited. Respect yourselves and the audience. Jokes with double meaning (of which one is sexual) are not allowed, unless the non-sexual meaning is at least as clear as the sexual one. If, during rehearsals, a skit includes a part that does not follow the rules, the respective part will be removed from the skit. Otherwise, the group will be disqualified. This also applies to skits that include yaoi/yuri undertones.
  • Use of firecrackers, fireworks, pyrotechnic devices, confetti, or other items that can affect the smooth progress of the contest is prohibited.
  • Props are allowed, as long as each item can be lifted up and transported by no more than two persons, and whose mounting and unmounting don’t last more than 30 seconds (assisted by no more than 4 volunteers) and don’t cause damage. No prop is allowed to remain on stage.
  • We can’t guarantee that we are able to provide furniture items. Therefore, don’t count on this when you work on the skit.
  • Jumping off the stage, running into the audience or other stunts that can hurt the participant or the audience are not allowed.
